Ensure required-server-files test can exit cleanly (#66765)
When running `pnpm test-start
test/production/standalone-mode/required-server-files/required-server-files.test.ts`
locally, Jest hangs and prevents the process from exiting. In the CI,
the issue is masked because `run-tests.js` uses `--forceExit`.

The reason for the hanging process is that there are two server
instances started, and only the last one is killed. By starting and
killing the server for each test we can not only fix this, but also
prevent the `should run middleware correctly (without minimalMode, with
wasm)` test from affecting the other tests when flipping the
`minimalMode` flag in `server.js`.

I also reverted the darwin-specific overwrites of `appPort` that were
added in #65722 and #66724. I don't think those are needed because after
#65722 was created we did land #66285 which sets the hostname to be
compatible with ipv4 and ipv6. If there's still a need to keep this then
let me know, and I will restore it.

[ppr] Handle corrupted postponed state (#67021)
Previously, when the provided postponed state was corrupted, the render
failed which resulted in a hydration error. Instead, when the postponed
state is corrupted, we send the resume stream just for the hydration
where it'll attempt to render client side with the data that's already
available.

Add sassOption implementation to support sass-embedded (#64577)
## What?
This PR adds an option to use `sass-embedded`.

## Why?
For large projects sass-embedded improves SCSS compilation time by over
50%.
See also https://github.com/vercel/next.js/discussions/36160

## How?
Added a sassOption `implementation` to configure the sass-loader which
Sass implementation to use.
See also https://www.npmjs.com/package/sass-loader#implementation

I think this a similar approach to what is done for `additionalData`.

## Additional notes
In order to support `sass-embedded`, `sass-loader` is upgraded to
12.6.0.

Use addDependency to track metadata route file changes (#66714)
### What

Use `addDependency` to track the file path passed to
`next-metadata-route-loader`

NOTE: We cannot apply the `next-metadata-route-loader` directly to the
metatda convention source files, since the json file could be processed
by json loader (Related previous fix #62615)

### Why

Previously when we passed down the file path as argument to the loader,
which sort of breaking the caching of webpack as the actual resource
path is string, it's not tracked as a dependency. This change fixed the
bad caching issue of static metadata routes. Based on the above reason
we use `addDependency` here to track the dependency change

Append sitemap extension and optimize imafe metadata static generation (#66477)
### What

Optimizing the static generation for dynamic metadata routes

If you're not using `generateSitemaps()` or `generateSitemaps()`, you
don't need to change any file conventions.
If you're using multi sitemap routes, make sure the returned `id`
properties from `generateSitemaps()` don't need to contain `.xml`, since
we'll always append one for you.

Analyzing the exports of metadata routes and determine if we need to
make them as dynamic routes.

### Why

Previously, users are struggling with the multi routes of sitemap or
images.
For sitemap, the `.xml` extension in url doesn't get appended
consistently to the multi sitemap route between dev and prod.
For image routes, the generated image routes are always dynamic routes
which cannot get static optimized.

The reason is that we need to always generate a catch-all route (such as
`/icon/[[...id]]` to handle both single route case (e.g. without
`generateImageMetadata`, representing url `/icon`) or multi route (e.g.
with `generateImageMetadata`, representing url `/icon/[id]`), only
catch-all routes can do it. This approach fail the static optimization
and make mapping url pretty difficult as parsing the file to check the
module exports has to be done before it.

#### Benifits

For image routes urls, this approach could help on static generation
such as single `/opengraph-image` route can be treated as static, and
then it can get static optimized if possible.

**Before**: `/opengraph-image/[[...id]]` cannot be optimized
**After**: single route `/opengraph-image` and multi-route
`/opengraph-image/[id]` are both possible to be statically optimized

For sitemap, since we removed appending `.xml` for dynamic routes, it’s
hard for users to have `/sitemap.xml` url with dynamic route convention
`sitemap.js` . But users desire smooth migration and flexibility.

**Before**: In v15 rc we removed the `.xml` appending that `sitemap.js`
will generate url `/sitemap` makes users hard to migrate, as users need
to re-submit the new sitemap url.
**After**: Now we'll consistently generate the `.xml`. Single route will
become `/sitemap.xml`, and multi route will become `/sitemap/[id].xml`.
It's still better than v15 as the urls generation is consistent, no
difference between dev and prod.

Here's the url generation comparsion

#### Before

All the routes are dynamic which cannot be optimized, we only had a
hacky optimization for prodution build multi-routes sitemap routes

| | only default export | `export generateImageMetadata()` | `export
generateSitemaps()` |
| -- | -- | -- | -- |
| opengraph-image.js | /opengraph-image/[[...id]] |
/opengraph-image[[...id]]/ | /opengraph-image/[[...id]] |
| sitemap.js | /sitemap/[[...id]] | /sitemap/[[...id]] | dev:
`/sitemap/[[...id]]` prod: `/sitemap/[id]` |

#### After

Most of the single route will are to get statically optimized now, and
the multi-routes sitemap are able to get SSG now

| | only default export | `export generateImageMetadata()` | `export
generateSitemaps()` |
| -- | -- | -- | -- |
| opengraph-image.js | /opengraph-image | /opengraph-image/[id] | - |
| sitemap.js | /sitemap.xml | - | /sitemap/[id].xml |

Next.js will have less overhead of mapping urls, we can easily multiply
the urls generation simply based on file conventions.

This takes the `layerAssets` property from the previous PR and actually

[Breaking] disable client router cache for page segments (#66039)
This configures the default client router cache `staleTime.dynamic`
value to be `0`.

This means that:
- Navigating between pages will always fire off a network request to get
RSC data for the page segment, rather than restoring from router cache
- Loading states will remain cached for 5 minutes (or whatever
`config.experimental.staleTimes.static` is set to)
- Shared layout data will continue to remain cached due to [partial
rendering](https://nextjs.org/docs/app/building-your-application/routing/linking-and-navigating#4-partial-rendering)
- Back/forward behavior will still restore from cache to ensure the
browser can restore scroll position.

It's possible to opt-out of this, and into the previous behavior, by
setting the
[`staleTimes`](https://nextjs.org/docs/app/api-reference/next-config-js/staleTimes)
config in `next.config.js`:

```js
/** @type {import('next').NextConfig} */
const nextConfig = {
  experimental: {
    staleTimes: {
      dynamic: 30
    },
  },
}
module.exports = nextConfig
Fix the runtime for rsc layer (#65850)
### What
Fix a bug introduced in #65694 , use app-page runtime for app router
layers
### Why
This is basically reverted the route context picking up logic we had
before.
During the test we found the error thrown
> Module not found: shared-runtime module router-context cannot be used
in rsc layer
Which is caused by a `next/router` imports in rsc page. Decided to
revert to what it was before as the most safe way to load share module
contexts.
It's caused by `next-contentlayer` usage that they're using
`next/router` in server component MDX, but we cannot lint error that
feat!(next/image): change default Content-Disposition to attachment (#65631)
### BREAKING CHANGE
This changes the behavior of the default image `loader` so that
[`Content-Disposition`](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Headers/Content-Disposition#as_a_response_header_for_the_main_body)
header is now `attachment` for added protection since the API can serve
arbitrary remote images.
The new default value, `attachment`, forces the browser to download the
image when visiting directly. This is particularly important when
`dangerouslyAllowSVG` is true. Most users will not notice the change
since visiting pages won't behave any differently, only visiting images
directly.
Users can switch back to the old behavior by configuring `inline` in
next.config.js
```js
module.exports = {
  images: {
    contentDispositionType: 'inline',
  },
}

Handle nonce on Next.js injected script/link tags (#65508)
## What

Ensures `nonce` is added to script and link tags Next.js renders.
Additional cases it now handles:

- We already passed `nonce` to the React rendering, though not
consistently on all cases where `renderToStream` is called, I'm
surprised there haven't been more reports of this, but now it will pass
it on all cases where React rendering is called that I could find
- In `get-layer-assets.tsx` we now pass `nonce` to both the `script` and
`link` tags
- When calling `ReactDOM.preload` the nonce was missing as well, ensured
that the nonce is included in that case as well.

Added a test that mimicks the reproduction by adding `next/font` in this
case.

Remove auto appending xml extension to dynamic sitemap routes (#65507)
### What

Remove the auto appending `.xml` extension to the sitemap routes when
it's a dynamic route.

### Why

Previously we were adding `.xml` to `/[...paths/]sitemap` routes, but
the bad part is when you use it to generate multiple sitemaps with
`generateSitemaps` in format like `/[...paths/]sitemap.xml/[id]`, which
doesn't look good in url format and it can be inferred as xml with
content-type. Hence we don't need to add `.xml` in the url.

Before this change it could also result into the different url between
dev and prod:
dev: `/sitemap.xml/[id]`
prod: `/sitemap/[id].xml`

Now it's going to be aligned as `/sitemap/[id]`. Users can add extension
flexiblely.

Re-land build(edge): extract buildId into environment (#65426)
### What

* Extract `buildId` and server action encryption key into environment
variables for edge to make code more deterministic
* Fixed the legacy bad env names from #64108
* Always sort `routes` in prerender manifest for consistent output
* Change `environments` to `env` in middleware manifest, confirmed with
@javivelasco this is a fine change without need to bumping the version

### Why

Dynamic variants like `buildId`, SA `encryptionKey` and preview props
are different per build, which results to the non determinstic edge
bundles. Once we extracted them into env vars then the bundles become
deterministic which give us more space for optimization

fix(next/image): add missing svg test refactor missing types (#65345)
The tests added in https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/46219 were
never correctly testing the headers because `detectContentType()` is
called first and only when we can't detect the type from the response
body do we fallback to the `Content-Type` header.

I also refactored some of the tests because the `ctx: any` type was
causing some tests to not run when testing different configuration
options.

feat(next/image)!: remove squoosh in favor of sharp as optional dependency (#63321)
## History

Previously, we added support for `squoosh` because it was a wasm
implementation that "just worked" on all platforms when running `next
dev` for the first time. However, it was slow so we always recommended
manually installing `sharp` for production use cases running `next
build` and `next start`.

Now that [`sharp` supports
webassembly](https://sharp.pixelplumbing.com/install#webassembly), we no
longer need to maintain `squoosh`, so it can be removed. We also don't
need to make the user install sharp manually because it can be installed
under `optionalDependencies`. I left it optional in case there was some
platform that still needed to manually install the wasm variant with
`npm install --cpu=wasm32 sharp` such as codesandbox/stackblitz (I don't
believe sharp has any fallback built in yet).

Since we can guarantee `sharp`, we can also remove `get-orientation` dep
and upgrade `image-size` dep.

I also moved an [existing `sharp`
test](https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/56674) into its own fixture
since it was unrelated to image optimization.

Fix next/image usage in mdx (#64875)
### What

Apply the react aliases for app dir also to the files with
`pagesExtension`

### Why

In the page bundle of mdx page:

In RSC layer react is referencing to the insatlled react 18.2.0 's
`jsx-runtime` to create each JSX element. The react 18.2 JSX runtime
access `propTypes` of the component type and then it crashes 💥
In RSC layer it should use the built-in react canary's `jsx-runtime`.

The reason that it didn't use the built-in one is we're using customized
`pageExtension` `["mdx"]` for mdx, where we didn't apply all these rules
for the files with `pageExtension`, but only the js and ts files by
default.

For mdx specifically, we cannot only applied to
`(page|layout|route).[page extension]` cause every mdx file needs to
have proper resolution. Since this doesn't break transform, it's safe to
apply for all files with page extension.
