## Feature
Currently `next build` is logging "Checking validity of types" even if `typescript.ignoreBuildErrors` is `true`. It seems like these options still work so `next build` either shouldn't log anything related to type-checking or log that type-checking is skipped.
I decided to branch the log message for clarity.
Happy to add a test but I'm not sure if you have existing infra considering https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/23226/files (which added the message) didn't add or change tests either.
CI failures look unrelated to me.
This updates this initial PR here https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/18146 to resolve merge conflicts and updates tests since we aren't able to update that PR itself.

the `next-storybook` plugin throws an error since version `10.0.6-canary.9`, specifically since #17306:
```
```
this PR makes `module.rules` an array again.

The change in #24328 will swallow any `MODULE_NOT_FOUND` errors triggered in the page. If you for example have a page with a broken import, it will tell you `Error: Failed to load /whatever`. This of course doesn't really tell people what is going on internally (a broken import). I added a check to see if the error actually happened in the page.
This PR re-includes ESLint with some notable changes, namely a guided setup similar to how TypeScript is instantiated in a Next.js application.
To add ESLint to a project, developers will have to create an `.eslintrc` file in the root of their project or add an empty `eslintConfig` object to their `package.json` file.
```js
touch .eslintrc
```
Then running `next build` will show instructions to install the required packages needed:
<img width="862" alt="Screen Shot 2021-04-19 at 7 38 27 PM" src="https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/12476932/115316182-dfd51b00-a146-11eb-830c-90bad20ed151.png">
Once installed and `next build` is run again, `.eslintrc` will be automatically configured to include the default config:
```json
{
"extends": "next"
}
```
In addition to this change:
- The feature is now under the experimental flag and requires opt-in. After testing and feedback, it will be switched to the top-level namespace and turned on by default.
- A new ESLint shareable configuration package is included that can be extended in any application with `{ extends: 'next' }`
- This default config extends recommended rule sets from [`eslint-plugin-react`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/eslint-plugin-react), [`eslint-plugin-react-hooks`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/eslint-plugin-react-hooks), and [`eslint-plugin-next`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@next/eslint-plugin-next)
- All rules in [`eslint-plugin-next`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@next/eslint-plugin-next) have been modified to include actionable links that show more information to help resolve each issue
When using `sizes`, [`matchAll`](https://caniuse.com/mdn-javascript_builtins_string_matchall) isn't supported by older browsers like IE and Safari 12. This PR changes it to `exec`.
There're already tests of `sizes` with multiple `vw` values covered.

This expands on https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/24070 and ensures we show the dev overlay for additional cases like where `_app` or `_document` have syntax errors causing compilation to not be able to complete. This achieves showing the dev overlay even when compilation fails from a syntax error by doing a third minimal compilation in development with the needed client-side assets to render the dev overlay.

This ensures that a duplicate locale key is not prepended to the path when navigating back (using browsers back button) to the root path containing query parameters or a hash value.
Current behaviour:
* `/fr?value=1` -> `/fr/another` -> click browser back button -> `/fr/fr?value=1`
* `/fr?value=1` -> `/fr?value=2` -> click browser back button -> `/fr/fr?value=1`
* `/fr#section` -> `/fr/another` -> click browser back button -> `/fr/fr#section`
* `/fr#section` -> `/fr#another` -> click browser back button -> `/fr/fr#section`
Fix:
Remove query string or hash value from path before determining whether to add the locale to the path in `addLocale` function.

Fixes: #24287
Previously, we weren't recording most (all?) of the Next.js measurements like `Next.js-hydration` in Concurrent Mode. This was mainly because the new API doesn't accept a callback.
Instead of special casing this, I've refactored it so that the measurements are just recorded when Root first flushes (via `useLayoutEffect`), which should be more or less the same timing for the old API.
Concurrent Mode is a little trickier for two reasons:
1. Flushes might be (slightly) delayed due to time-slicing and prioritization
2. Selective hydration might skew measurements in cases where full hydration is aborted
I don't have a good answer for those yet, so they'll need to be addressed when the time comes.
Add description for `--use-npm` flag that shows up as part of the help information.

This PR addresses the potential for memory leakage with the previous caching scheme; it should also be more efficient, resulting in fewer instances where a fresh Babel config must be generated. Documentation has been added, and `overrides` have been removed in favor of conditional plugins for consistency.
This approach is easier to break, in that `CharacteristicsGermaneToCaching` must be correct for all cases. However, it means that <= 8 configs will need to be generated within the context of a single thread, and the config-caching is about as fast as we can get it.

This is a follow-up to https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/23588 to update to use a regex lexer to gather the named regex groups instead of attempting to gather them through executing the regex since it can fail to gather the regex groups when they are using specific matching. @timneutkens it'd be great to get your input.
These changes introduce a new Babel loader that eliminates much of the existing overhead, resulting in better HMR speeds.
Multithreading is still in flight, and may be omitted if speed improvements end up being negligible. For now, the new loader is hidden behind an `experimental` flag.
Items to be completed before this PR is ready to merge:
- [x] reconfigure `ncc` to precompile the parts of `@babel/core` and `@babel/traverse` that we're accessing directly
- [x] change `@babel/core/...` imports to `ncc`ed version
- [x] ~~measure multithreading (not currently pushed) functionality, and include the functionality depending on the results~~ I'll open a separate PR for this
- [x] ensure TypeScript is happy with all imports as final step (`--no-verify` was used to bypass)
There will be two follow-up PRs:
- loader support for projects with custom `.babelrc`
- multithreaded loader (should the change we warranted after measurement)
* fixes a bundle size regression from webpack 4 to 5
* fixes these warnings during resolving build dependencies for packages using `exports`

Follow up to #23614. `resolvedAsPath` isn't actually even being used as an output, we're just mutating it for convenience. If we do want to output it in the future, we can do it a different way (i.e. via return).
This ensures we don't parse the default params when auto-exporting dynamic routes with i18n since the page and path aren't equal when localized. This adds an additional test case to ensure we don't regress on this behavior in the `i18n-support` test suites.

* fix type error
Co-authored-by: JJ Kasper <jj@jjsweb.site>
This RP fixes the problem that the image optimization API uses a large amount of memory, and is not correctly freed afterwards. There're multiple causes of this problem:
### 1. Too many WebAssembly instances are created
We used to do all the image processing operations (decode, resize, rotate, encodeJpeg, encodePng, encodeWebp) inside each worker thread, where each operation creates at least one WASM instance, and we create `os.cpus().length - 1` workers by default. That means in the worst case, there will be `N*6` WASM instances created (N is the number of CPU cores minus one).
This PR changes it to a pipeline-like architecture: there will be at most 6 workers, and the same type of operations will always be assigned to the same worker. With this change, 6 WASM instances will be created in the worst case.
### 2. WebAssembly memory can't be deallocated
It's known that [WebAssembly can't simply deallocate its memory as of today](https://stackoverflow.com/a/51544868/2424786). And due to the implementation/design of the WASM modules that we are using, they're not very suitable for long-running cases and it's more like a one-off use. For each operation like resize, it will allocate **new memory** to store that data. So the memory will increase quickly as more images are processed.
The fix is to get rid of `execOnce` for WASM module initializations, so each time a new WASM module will be created and the old module will be GC'd entirely as there's no reference to it. That's the only and easiest way to free the memory use of a WASM module AFAIK.
### 3. WebAssembly memory isn't correctly freed after finishing the operation
`wasm-bindgen` generates code with global variables like `cachegetUint8Memory0` and `wasm` that always hold the WASM memory as a reference. We need to manually clean them up after finishing each operation.
This PR ensures that these variables will be deleted so the memory overhead can go back to 0 when an operation is finished.
### 4. Memory leak inside event listeners
`emscripten` generates code with global error listener registration (without cleaning them up): https://github.com/vercel/next.js/blob/99a4ea6/packages/next/next-server/server/lib/squoosh/webp/webp_node_dec.js#L39-L43
And the listener has references to the WASM instance directly or indirectly: https://github.com/vercel/next.js/blob/99a4ea6/packages/next/next-server/server/lib/squoosh/webp/webp_node_dec.js#L183-L192 (`e`, `y`, `r`).
That means whenever a WASM module is created (emscripten), its memory will be kept by the global scope. And when we replace the WASM module with a new one, the newer will be added again and the old will still be referenced, which causes a leak.
Since we're running them inside worker threads (which will retry on fail), this PR simply removes these listeners.
### Test
Here're some statistics showing that these changes have improved the memory usage a lot (the app I'm using to test has one page of 20 high-res PNGs):

It's back to normal; memory changed from ~300MB to ~480MB, peaked at 1.2GB. You can clearly see that GC is working correctly here.

This pull request **temporarily** removes ESLint, as it was not landed in accordance with our standard experimental policies. We are fully committed to landing this change again.
This is being reverted because:
- Next.js has very strict goals for its install size. This feature resulted in adding over 17MB, or a 43.6% increase.
- The feature was not first landed under the `experimental` key in `next.config.js`, rather, it was added under the stable namespace (top-level)
- Using the feature doesn't do a "guided setup" like TypeScript, it should ask you to "bring your own" dependencies for ESLint
- It uses a undesirable ESLint plugin name: `plugin:@next/next/recommended`. This should read out as strictly `next`, or as short as we can get it.
- Does not provide actionable warnings (missing link to resolve issue)
- Does not follow appropriate console output styling. We need to revisit how these are presented.
To re-land this, we need to ensure the following minimums are met:
- Very minor change in install size
- Fully experimental (i.e. flagged) with warnings
- Finalized package name and configuration shape, preferably so we can do ` { extends: 'next' } `.
This adds support for returning an object from `rewrites` in `next.config.js` with `beforeFiles`, `afterFiles`, and `fallback` to allow specifying rewrites at different stages of routing. The existing support for returning an array for rewrites is still supported and behaves the same way. The documentation has been updated to include information on these new stages that can be rewritten and removes the outdated note of rewrites not being able to override pages.

The current `<Image />` component does not fallback gracefully when JavaScript is disabled in the client / browser.
You can test this with the [official Next/Image example](https://csb-4k0kr-p8ya8f304.vercel.app/), by disabling JavaScript in the browser's DevTools. Video demo: https://streamable.com/frkvw9
This PR aims to fix this behaviour by using `<noscript></noscript>` tags to conditionally display a standard `<img>` element using the `props` passed to `<Image />` when JavaScript is disabled.
For browser sessions where JavaScript is enabled, this will not cause an increase in network requests, so there should be no downside.
One area where this PR is a bit "hacky" is that it uses a negative `margin-top` to counteract `sizerStyle.paddingTop`. From what I can tell, `sizerStyle.paddingTop` is generated on the server side, where we can not know ahead of time whether JavaScript is enabled in the browser - hence why I've opted for this solution.

This PR removes the `visibility` style property change from next/image. It was previously added in #18195 to fix a bug that when no `src` is set, and that bug is not valid anymore as all images will always have `src` (and a fallback too).

Currently Next.js exposes internal code in the error overlay if certain errors were created from the user code. Some examples were attached in #20776.
We can clearly see that the path is wrong (`../next-server`), it should be `./node_modules/next/dist/next-server`:
![CleanShot 2021-03-19 at 01 33 04](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/3676859/111670728-1ae7e400-8853-11eb-9213-3b359798900e.png)
The root cause is the `__nextjs_original-stack-frame` middleware resolves the file path with the following code:
```js
path.resolve(
rootDirectory,
getSourcePath(sourcePosition.source)
)
```
where `rootDirectory` is the **app root**, but `sourcePosition.source` comes from the module path, which is relative to the path of the `next` binary, not the app root.
That explains why we see `../next-server` from the error above, because it's relative to `./node_modules/next/bin/next`.
Because of that, the resolved result will never have `node_modules` in its path and it won't be filtered by the error overlay in the UI. Here's a screenshot of the frame object in the UI:
![CleanShot 2021-03-18 at 23 01 29@2x](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/3676859/111670062-65b52c00-8852-11eb-9293-3a6e5b7c4b9b.png)
And the filter we use to determine if a frame is expanded or not only depends on `body.originalStackFrame`:
```js
expanded: !Boolean(
body.originalStackFrame?.file?.includes('node_modules') ?? true
)
```
So this PR also adds `source.file` check to ensure they will be ignored (not necessary because we fixed the path resolving).

Fixes#23240
This PR attempts to provide an option to allow importing TS/TSX from outside of the current Next.js project root directory. Although this goes against the design decision that no source code should be imported from outside of root and [might bring tons of issues](https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/19928#issuecomment-741596557), it will still be helpful in some monorepo use cases.
This PR assumes that the external files are following the same language syntax rules and under the same tooling versions as the source code inside your project root. And it's also not allowed to enable the `baseUrl` feature in the external directory (as the project should only have 1 import base URL).

This ensures we exit the build process after the build completes even if timers/connections are left open since this can cause the process to hang indefinitely. This was the previous behavior although got changed un-intentionally in e27b7e996d
This updates our production test with an open timer to ensure it doesn't block the process from completing.
As stated in #23157, this PR merges all the operations into 1 worker thread (`processBuffer` in `impl.ts`) and only pass a list of operation names and args into the worker. This should improve the speed and memory usage of next/image.

This allows to use `__NEXT_WEBPACK_LOGGING` to enable verbose webpack logging output to investigate into performance and cache problems.
`__NEXT_WEBPACK_LOGGING=1` enables some basic logging
`__NEXT_WEBPACK_LOGGING=infrastructure` enables only infrastructure logging
`__NEXT_WEBPACK_LOGGING=profile-client` enables deep profile output of the client build
`__NEXT_WEBPACK_LOGGING=profile-server` same for the server
`__NEXT_WEBPACK_LOGGING=profile-client,infrastructure` combines multiple things
* this will fix problems with serverless target which doesn't use a runtime chunk
* It also omit env vars from contributing to cache version as webpack will handle that now
* It moves the webpack-runtime chunk from ./chunks back to ./

# Route Announcements
## Summary
This PR improves the accessibility of NextJS's client-side navigation by announcing route changes to screen readers.
## Context
When a user who is sighted clicks on a link, they can see the content change. It's an affirmation that what the user intended to do by clicking a link actually worked! Users navigating the page via a screen-reader will not get this feedback on NextJS sites (This is an issue on many SPA-like architectures).

## Solution
Whenever there is a route change, the new `<RouteAnnouncer />` will look for a name to give the new page and then announce it! The name is found by first looking for an `h1`, falling back to `document.title`, and lastly to `pathname`. `<RouteAnnouncer />` is a visually hidden component placed within the `<AppContainer />`.

## Inspiration
First and foremost, this PR was inspired by @marcysutton's studies and writing, [What we learned from user testing of accessible client-side routing techniques with Fable Tech Labs
](https://www.gatsbyjs.com/blog/2019-07-11-user-testing-accessible-client-routing/) as well as @madalynrose's [Accessible Routing](https://github.com/gatsbyjs/gatsby/pull/19290) PR for Gatsby.
There were also learnings gleaned from the conversations within #7681.

A number of changes here. I recommend viewing the diff with the <a href="?w=1">whitespace flag enabled</a>.
- OpenTelemetry is replaced with a custom and lightweight tracing solution.
- Three trace targets are currently supported: console, Zipkin, and NextJS.
- Tracing is now governed by environment variables rather than `--require instrument.js`.
+ `TRACE_TARGET`: one of `CONSOLE`, `ZIPKIN`, or `TELEMETRY`; defaults to `TELEMETRY` if unset or invalid.
+ `TRACE_ID`: an 8-byte hex-encoded value used as the Zipkin trace ID; if not provided, this value will be randomly generated and passed down to subprocesses.
Other sundry:
- I'm missing something, probably a setup step, with the Zipkin target. Traces are captured successfully, but you have to manually enter the Trace ID in order to view the trace - it doesn't show up in queries.
- I'm generally unhappy with [this commit](235cedcb3e). It is... untidy to provide a telemetry object via `setGlobal`, but I don't have a ready alternative. Is `distDir` strictly required when creating a new Telemetry object? I didn't dig too deep here.
As noted, there are a lot of changes, so it'd be great if a reviewer could:
- [ ] pull down the branch and try to break it
- [ ] check the Zipkin traces and identify possible regressions in the functionality
Closes#22570Fixes#22574
Currently if you have `sizes` set in `next/image`, the image will likely be downloaded multiple times (usually twice) on Safari (macOS and iOS): the correct size for the viewport, and the original size specified in `src`.
Also make sure you have "Ignore Resource Cache" disabled in the Safari Devtools when trying to reproduce:
![CleanShot 2021-03-09 at 21 05 54@2x](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/3676859/110476820-6399f180-811d-11eb-93ec-5b2482c87884.png)
The root cause is the way Safari handles `<img>`'s attribute updates. Although React updates all the attributes one by one synchronously and programmatically, Safari will still try to fetch the resource immediately and won't wait for other DOM changes to be finished.
That means if we set the following 3 attributes in this order: `src`, `srcSet`, `sizes`. Safari will fetch the image when `src` is set. And then once `srcSet` is there it will fetch the resource again based on it. And finally, when `sizes` is updated it might correct the resource URL again.
So the fix here is simple: by just reordering those to `sizes`, `srcSet`, `src`, it will only load the image with the correct size only once:
<img width="1498" alt="CleanShot 2021-03-09 at 21 05 30@2x" src="https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/3676859/110477852-a27c7700-811e-11eb-88dc-d6e7895f67bd.png">
Fixes#19478.
This updates to not automatically export `/500` from `_error` if a custom `getInitialProps` is used since logic may be used inside of this method that causes the export to fail. Users can still opt-in to the static `/500` by adding a `pages/500.js` file.
This also refactors checking `_app` for custom `getInitialProps` to outside of the static check loop to prevent a potential race condition where we could run this check multiple times un-necessarily.

This ensures we load all env values before loading `next.config.js` since these values can be used in there. This also updates to ensure we're testing these values are available while loading `next.config.js` so we don't regress on this.

This PR adds request deduplication for `_getServerData`. If a request with the same URL is already in-flight, we don't send another new request. When a request succeeds or fails, we delete the cache.
A potential improvement this brings is, when `getServerSideProps` of a new route is slow to load, the user might keep clicking on the link which causes new requests, and the route will never update because results of old requests were ditched. Also adds a test case for this scenario.
Closes#19238.
In the current implementation, `idleTimeout` will always be thrown even if it didn't time out and `Promise.race` was resolved. This causes the error `Error: Route did not complete loading` on every route transition and Chrome Devtools will pause code execution if you have "Pause on exceptions" enabled.
This PR adds `resolvePromiseWithTimeout` which does the same thing as `Promise.race` and `idleTimeout`, but it cancels the rejection when it resolves successfully, in which case the error won't be thrown.

This ensures `distDir` is set under `renderOpts` in `next-server` so that it is present when experimental `optimizeCss` is enabled.
x-ref: https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/16539
Currently, the image component doesn't handle use of the `sizes` property with `layout="fill"` and `layout="responsive"` very well for small viewports. It will never include sizes smaller than the smallest viewport (640px) in the srcset, so even if you specify `sizes="30vw"` in your image, you have to download the full-viewport-width image on small devices.
This PR adds logic such that if you use `layout="fill"` and include a `sizes` property, the image component will include the full range of image sizes in the `srcset`.
It also includes an optimization where it finds the smallest `vw` value in the sizes value and combines that with the smallest viewport width, and uses that as the floor of the srcset. It does this so it doesn't unnecessarily increase transfer size by including ALL sizes. This is still a conservative optimization--for 95% of cases, taking the _largest_ `vw` size would work, but I don't see a way to do that without breaking a few corner cases.
The case of a sizes prop with `px` values is fixed but not optimized--though generally that case is less of a good fit for the fill or responsive layout anyway.
This ensures we handle resolve rewrites during prefetching the same way we do during a client-transition. Previously if a rewritten source was used in an `href` neither the page bundle or SSG data if needed would be prefetched although would work correctly on a client transition.
Fixes: https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/22441
Follow-up to https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/22139 this ensures the default 500 error page hydrates with the correct `statusCode` prop when updating query values on the client since currently it will switch the 404 `statusCode` when one isn't present. An additional test case has been added to ensure this is handled correctly.
This adds generating a static 500 status page when a `pages/500.js` file is added similar to how we handle generating static 404 pages when `pages/404.js` is present. This allows showing a customized error page when a 500 error occurs in an optimal way.
This pull request removes the native `sharp` dependency (which doesn't work on some Linux variants, nor **M1 Mac**) and replaces it with a wasm equivalent.
It also reduces Next.js' installed size by 27.3 MB.
The code is adapted from the [Squoosh CLI](https://github.com/GoogleChromeLabs/squoosh).
This PR still supports:
- Rotation normalization
- Resizing
- PNG
- JPEG
- Webp
However, it (temporarily) removes support for:
- Resizing Gifs
- Resizing Tiff
(these formats still get served and rendered correctly by the image component)

This implements the compatibility require hook as per https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/21789.
The hook is applied at the point of webpack initialization. In addition the separate packages are exposed for the various webpack subrequires.
The test then ensures instance equality for the basic require hook from the next.js config file.
I suspect this might have bad interactions with Yarn Pnp support, but maybe we will be lucky.
This should resolve the typing issues described in https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/21390 from the webpack inlining, by declaring `next/dist/compiled/webpack` in the main typing file as a source.
@timneutkens I think this is ready for a review.
I've made some changes to the original design that _seem_ to have paid off. The parenting relationships for traces of normal builds are applied more uniformly, resulting in more intelligible traces:
<img width="900" alt="Screen Shot 2021-01-29 at 12 53 47 AM" src="https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/5016978/106253732-ba321880-61cc-11eb-98fd-d45af5078273.png">
Hot-reloading is surfaced now, too. I will note, however, that we will want to dig in deeper and find out where the large portion of time at the beginning of hot-reload is spent. Example:
<img width="894" alt="Screen Shot 2021-01-29 at 12 53 28 AM" src="https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/5016978/106253828-e057b880-61cc-11eb-967d-46eaff31ecef.png">
Where did those 180 ms go? At the least, we can now track how long a hot-reload takes, and have a place to start with further investigation.
This insures we add entries for each locale version of a non-dynamic SSG page since they can have unique revalidate values. This requires a version bump in the `prerender-manifest` since the static routes now contain additional values which need to be handled separately.

The original type for `GetServerSidePropsContext.req.cookies` was introduced in #19724. In the PR, the test at `test/integration/typescript/test/index.test.js` expects req.cookies to always exist, so `req.cookies` will never be undefined.
I'm guessing that req.cookies is parsed using the same cookie middleware as `NextApiRequest`, in which case `req.cookies` should be `{ [key: string]: string }`, not `{ [key: string]: any }`.

> AsPath is incorrect on Server if you use rewrites and getInitialProps. On the server, asPath is the rewritten asPath while on the client asPath ist as given in the request URL.
The same issue was used to happen on `getServersideProps`, but it was fixed in this PR (https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/17121).
`getInitialProps` needs same fix except when the target is serverless, which has correct `asPath` value.
Additional tests have been added in the `getInitialProps` suite to ensure correct asPath with rewrites.

Previously our automatic React injection approach injected `import React from 'react'` automatically whenever JSX was detected. The new official JSX transform solves this by enforcing importing `React` when it is used.
This codemod automatically converted files that are using a "global React variable" to use `import React from 'react'`
This removes the peer dep on `webpack` from `react-dev-overlay`, as it is for types only.
This makes the peer dep on `webpack` optional for `react-refresh-utils`, as you can provide webpack via the constructor (how Next.js does).
This picks up on the inlining work in https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/20598 to also include webpack loader inlining optimizations.
This includes:
* The dependencies of sass-loader
* resolve-url-loader
And for added benefit:
* babel-plugin-transform-define
* babel-plugin-transform-react-remove-prop-types
style-loader and css-loader didn't inline easily. Perhaps we can come back to these ones.

The `router` can be missing in a test environment when trying to render a `Link` component. This PR bails out of `router.prefetch()` when `router` is missing.
The alternative is for users to mock `next/link` or to mock the `router` and wrap their test components.
Please let me know any feedback.
This updates the error shown when a path doesn't match the dynamic route in `getStaticPaths` to not include the `locale` since this isn't considered when matching against the dynamic route.

This is a #19325 reconfigured to support a loader passed in via a `loader` prop on the Image component, rather than using a config-based approach.
The idea is that applications wanting to use a custom loader will create a wrapper element for the image component that incorporates that loader. See a simple example of this pattern in the integration tests.
This solution is similar to the one prototyped by @ricokahler in #20213 and described at https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/18606#issuecomment-720149156

Currently pages with `notFound: false` from `getServerSideProps` behave the same as `notFound: true`, i.e. just having the key is enough to result in a 404. This fixes the check in render.tsx and adds tests for it.
This pull request correctly assigns boolean attributes for `<script />` to match the element as it is created by a server-side render.
Prior to this pull request, we'd double-execute `<script>` tags with the `async`, `defer`, or `nomodule` property.

This PR is a small follow-up to #14705. It saves Next.js users from falling into a [pretty nasty trap](https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/36620) in which I ended up last Friday. It took more than two days to investigate what was going on, so I hope I'm the last person who’s doing it 😅

To reproduce the bug I’m fixing:
1. Pick a large http body size (64 or 128 KB)
1. Check _Call res.end() after res.redirect() in /api/redirect_
1. Navigate to a heavy page or an api handler via redirect
1. Observe that the http response is never finished.
If you set `compress` to `false` in `next.config.js` or pick a small payload size (< `zlib.Z_DEFAULT_CHUNK` after compression), the bug will not be observed. This is explained by the use of `res.on("drain", ...)` [by the `compression` package](3fea81d0ea/index.js (L193-L218)). The package itself is not the reason for an issue though, it seems to be in the Node’s built-in `http` package.
I’m happy to provide more info or GitHub CI to the MWE if needed. I was also thinking of adding some Next.js-specific testing, but could not come up with a compact and clear test plan. Happy to do this if there are any ideas.

Fixes: https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/20612
This pull request adds an `elements.delete` operation to the `useIntersection`'s cleanup function: `unobserve`.
Without this delete operation, next.js holds onto an unreachable reference of every observed element indefinitely (automatically every Link and Image is observed, so that means every rendered Link and Image element adds to the leak). I found this memory leak when building out an infinite feed in next.js with thousands of Link elements.
The final code block of the `unobserve` function body:
```tsx
// Destroy observer when there's nothing left to watch:
if (elements.size === 0) {
observer.disconnect()
observers.delete(id)
}
```
Is effectively unreachable without this delete operation, as the `elements` map will never decrease in size as it is currently. This means that there will always be at least one IntersectionObserver instance in memory if useIntersection has been used once, regardless of if there are currently any components still using the hook.
This pull request makes `Router#push` and `Router#replace` function identically to `<Link />`, i.e. reset scroll when the new render is complete.
Users can opt out of this new behavior via:
```tsx
const path = '/my-page'
router.push(path, path, { scroll: false })
```

## Why
Some users prefer to use a custom server implementation that handles body parsing. If they do this, they have no way to opt out of all body parsing in API Routes. Requests with bodies die if next's `bodyParser` is not disabled. Requests just hang forever.
Instead of adding [this config](https://nextjs.org/docs/api-routes/api-middlewares#custom-config) to every API Route, we do a simple check to avoid parsing the body twice.

## What
Restores handling of termination signals, `SIGTERM` and `SIGINT`, to allow graceful termination of next commands. Seems to have been removed during a child process refactor #6450, was this intentional?
## Why
Currently the command processes have to be forcefully killed. This would help those using Next.js with custom servers and tools like Docker and Kubernetes that rely on termination signals to shutdown instances.

This updates the fallback locale for `locale: false` to be the `defaultLocale` instead of the currently active `locale` as it allows passing through URLs more seamlessly as a URL without the locale prefixed can be treated as the `defaultLocale` instead of having to worry if the locale matches the currently active locale. This PR removes the modern mode experiment because:
- It does not yield meaningful bundle size wins when compared to other initiatives we've taken
- It's not compatible with webpack 5 (which we're upgrading to)
- It's currently broken and causes most apps to malfunction
- There's no champion currently owning the experiment
We can re-introduce this in the future when we'd like to make it a default for all Next.js apps.
Note: **Next.js still supports Differential Loading (`nomodule`) and does it by default.** This PR strictly removes the experimental modern _syntax_, and does not disable our existing modern/legacy polyfilling.

In working with @devknoll on https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/17770 we thought it would be a good idea to update to the latest minor version from 1.2.20 -> 1.4.9 based on some bug fixes in these minor releases. I would like to separate this out to simplify the growing changeset in https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/17770, where we need to use `node-html-parser` to parse HTML for custom react components.
The linked changeset above will take some time and there are some [useful bug fixes](https://github.com/taoqf/node-html-parser/commits/master) and features in this minor release we could benefit from anyway. Namely:
- add nextSibling, nextElementSibling
- missing node tag
- `<style>` tag is not parsed correctly
Also I think it's a good idea to separate this out for testing.
This fixes a few things related to optional catch-all routes and i18n. The first thing is it ensures the correct data route is generated on the client so that the locale isn't duplicated for an optional catch-all route, the next is it ensures the browser history is updated correctly when only a locale change is occurring, and then it also ensures we handle the locales and normalizing for fallback optional catch-all pages correctly.
Tests have been added to ensure these cases are covered properly and we don't regress on them, these changes were also tested on Vercel [here](https://next-js-bug-i18n-root-params-nybg44l0b.vercel.app/)

This pull request completely replaces our old page loader with a brand new route loader.
Our existing comprehensive test suite means I did not need to add a bunch of tests. I did add them where behavior was added or fixed.
Summary of the changes:
- Eagerly evaluates prefetched pages in browser idle time (speeds up transitions)
- Router is **no longer frozen** indefinitely if the Build Manifest never arrives
- Router is **no longer frozen** indefinitely if a page fails to bootstrap
- New `withFuture` utility instead of ad-hoc deduping per resource
- Prefetching is now delayed until browser idle time to not impact TTI
- Browsers without `prefetch` now fall back to eager evaluation instead of using `preload`
- We're now ready to serve non-static assets **with `no-store` without breaking prefetching**
- **Application can now hydrate without fetching CSS assets—this is a huge performance win that was previously blocking hydration**
---
The minor size increase here is unfortunate, but we have to incur it for correctness.

This confused me a lot, because in the case of `withBundleAnalyzer({})` it will ignore any previous config and basically override everything.
Furthermore, it makes more sense to move the call with `enabled` option inside so it's aligned with other plugins approach.
This ensures we use the `defaultLocale` for a locale domain when rendering non-static pages. Static pages will initially contain the global `defaultLocale` and then be updated on the client since we don't currently prerender a version of the pages for each locale domain.

when attempting to build with `node-sass` 5.0.0. This error comes from `sass-loader`. They have recently released version 10.0.5 which supports `node-sass` 5.0.0 (PR <https://github.com/webpack-contrib/sass-loader/pull/899>, release <https://github.com/webpack-contrib/sass-loader/releases/tag/v10.0.5>).
This replaces the seen set with a newly instantiated map of refs per
value in the array. This corrects the behavior that the refs map passed
into isSerializable contains only values along the path to the current
value: previously, because the refs map was shared among all values in
the array, this would trigger on instances such as:
```js
const x = [];
isSerializableProps('/', 'test', { arr: [x, [x]] });
```
... where the reference is shared but there is no cycle formed, as the
presence of elements is disjoint.

This adds inlining for Babel and the Babel plugins used in next.
This is based to the PR at https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/18823.
The approach is to make one large bundle and then separate out the individual packages from that in order to avoid duplications.
In the first attempt the Babel bundle size was 10MB... using "resolutions" in the Yarn workspace to reduce the duplicated packages this was brought down to a 2.8MB bundle for Babel and all the used plugins which is exactly the expected file size here.
This will thus add a 2.8MB download size to the next package, but save downloading any babel dependencies separately, removing a large number of package dependencies from the overall install.
The rule [total-functions/no-unsafe-readonly-mutable-assignment](https://github.com/danielnixon/eslint-plugin-total-functions#total-functionsno-unsafe-readonly-mutable-assignment) triggers with this error message:

On the other hand, this is a small, low-priority change (IMO), so an alternative work around is just to disable the lint rule for that line of course.

Lint error was discovered using typescript@next, version `4.1.0-dev.20200921` and eslint-plugin-total-functions version `4.1.0`, but I tested the change to nextjs using typescript version `3.8.3`.
This pull request speeds up Next.js' rendering pipeline by fetching data, parsing it, and loading it into memory instead of only doing the network request.
This will mainly result in improved Firefox/Safari performance since they handled prefetch incorrectly—only Chrome did it right. This also gets us closer to being able to use `no-store` in our caching headers!

This updates to the latest ncc@0.24.1 release.
Initially I thought chalk needed to be removed to make this work, but it turns out it was a caching issue.
I've also added a cache clear to the rebuild command to avoid these issues hopefully in future.
This adds ncc inlining optimizations for the following dependencies:
* cacache
* schema-utils
* find-cache-dir
* mkdirp
* neo-async
* web-vitals
The slight increase in output in the reports here is due to the variation of the bundled version of web-vitals.
In addition, this moves ast-types to be a devDependencies entry instead of in dependencies as it was before https://github.com/vercel/next.js/pull/14746 as I could not see any production usage (ping @prateekbh). Happy to separate that out into a separate PR if preferred too.
This PR prints a pretty error when the Image `src` property is a [protocol-relative URL](https://www.paulirish.com/2010/the-protocol-relative-url/).
> Update 2014.12.17:
> Now that SSL is encouraged for everyone and doesn’t have performance concerns, this technique is now an anti-pattern. If the asset you need is available on SSL, then always use the https:// asset.
Fixes#18536
This is a prerequisite to being able to ncc inline the Babel dependencies in next.js.
The removal of preset-modules is based on replacing it with preset-env under `targets: { esmodules: true }`, as per the guidance from the package (https://www.npmjs.com/package/@babel/preset-modules):
> Starting from @babel/preset-env 7.9.0, you can enable the bugfixes: true option to get the same behavior as using @babel/preset-modules, but with support for custom targets. If you need to target browsers with native modules support (like this preset does), you can use targets: { esmodules: true }.
From the above, I'm pretty sure this is entirely a backwards compatible change, apart from the change to the runtime plugin list being visible. Perhaps @developit can confirm this as well.
Next.js would try to "recover" if its CSS assets went missing (i.e. a deployment occured) **while the page was initially loading**.
This handled a rare case where we'd try to let the Next.js complete hydrating even though a deployment occured.
However, in practice, this never worked: if the `fetch()` failed, that means the original assets never downloaded themselves (because the `fetch()` should be coming from disk cache).
Instead of letting Next.js get itself into a weird state, let's just stop hydration so that the page doesn't accidentally delete its styles.
The handle-no-styles behavior is already tested in `test/integration/css/test/index.test.js`. There was never a branch for it using its cached styles, so nothing else needs updated.

Fixes#17930
Serverside Dynamically loaded CSS module file insertion adds css-files as usual static files with special data-n-p tag, that is used in page transition logic. That files get removed on page transition cause they are not explicitly required in scope of page.
Mini-css-extract-plugin adds style tags at chunk insertion without any tags and leave them be, no matter how many page transitions were made.
I removed data-n-p tag from dynamically loaded css module files and added new data-n-d tag for it.

This makes sure we don't incorrectly strip locale characters from the path if it is not a locale prefix e.g. `/fr` should not be removed from `/frank`. Additional tests have been added to ensure this isn't stripped for this case.
Fixes: https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/18332
When visiting a non-locale prefixed path (`/hello` instead of `/fr/hello`) we don't trigger locale redirects currently so if another locale is matched we need to ensure this is reset to the `defaultLocale` for rendering to prevent a mis-match on the client and the server.
This also fixes hydration errors from occurring with `asPath` for `getServerSideProps` pages due to `normalizeLocalePath` expecting only a pathname and `asPath` containing `hash` and `query values also.

Fixes: https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/18510
This adds support for passing `statusCode` in a `redirect` from `getServerSideProps` or `getStaticProps` which matches the `redirect` shape allowed to be returned for `redirects` in `next.config.js`

Older versions of Safari (and other browsers) do not support webp format so we were incorrectly falling back to png.
This PR fixes#18509 so that we fallback to the original image format if a modern format like webp was not explicitly provided in the Accept header.
Tests were added to ensure that the Accept header for Safari, Firefox, and Chrome work properly.
This makes sure we don't use invalid `x-now-route-matches` which can occur when `i18n` default locale is visited and a prerendered page is matched. To correct this we first check if we are able to derive the correct params from the URL and then bail on parsing `x-now-route-matches` if we are. Additional test cases are being added in the builder to ensure we don't regress on this

This PR deprecates the `unsized` property from NextImage because the property did not accomplish the desired effect.
Users should rely on one of the new layouts instead:
- `<Image layout="fixed" />`
- `<Image layout="intrinsic" />`
- `<Image layout="responsive" />`
- `<Image layout="fill" />`
The `unsized` property will continue to work as-is in production but is deprecated and will throw in dev.
---
### TODO:
- [x] test `layout=fill` in typescript types
- [x] test `layout=fill` render behavior
- [x] test that `unsized` switches to `layout=fill`
- [x] test `next dev` erroring on `unsized`
- [ ] layout docs (tracked in issue #18554)
- [ ] both `layout=fill` and `layout=responsive` use all deviceWidths in the srcset

This PR introduces a new `layout` property.
This allows 3 possible values (`fixed`, `intrinsic`, or `responsive`) which solve many use cases we have seen since 10.0.0 and will hopefully avoid usage of `unsized`.

This ensures we provide the current `locale`, `locales`, and `defaultLocale` in the context when rendering the 404 for a blocking SSG page
Fixes: https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/18505
This makes sure custom-routes function properly with i18n support. Since the `locale` is stripped from the `pathname` this re-adds when checking custom-routes to allow the locale to be matched against
